What’s your contact info?
Our phone number is easy to remember because it has our address in it: 901-274-1916. Our email address is shangrilarecordsmemphis@gmail.com
Where are y’all located?
1916 Madison Ave, Memphis, TN 38104. Deep in the heart of Midtown Memphis! We’re between the cross-streets of McLean and Tucker (one house up from Tucker), directly across the street from the original Huey’s restaurant, one traffic light west from Overton Square. This is our original and only location (so-far!), and we’ll be 30 years in business in 2018!
When are y’all open?
7 days a week! We are CLOSED on the following holidays: NEW YEAR’S DAY, MEMORIAL DAY, 4th of JULY, LABOR DAY, THANKSGIVING, and CHRISTMAS.
Monday-Saturday 11am-6pm and Sunday 1-5pm
What do y’all buy?
Here’s a page telling you what we’re looking for, but let’s talk about genres that we do NOT really need: Classical, Big Band, Easy-Listening, Pop Vocals from the 40’s and 50’s, Modern Country (most all ‘80s-present). We are NOT especially interested in VHS tapes, 8-track tapes, console-type stereos, 8-track players. Condition of your items is a major factor as well – we do NOT buy scratched-up records, or any merchandise that requires fixing in order to be resold. Feel free to call us
When do y’all buy?
We buy merchandise by appointment, as well as during the following store hours ONLY:
Monday-Friday 11am-4pm
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay and Paypal.
We do NOT accept checks.
What is your return policy?
We will gladly refund (or give store credit) for defective NEW PRODUCT purchased within the last 30 days.
USED PRODUCTS are sold AS-IS and all sales are final. We cannot offer a refund over changing tastes, not realizing you already own an item, or other personal circumstances.
In some cases, store credit may be given, but is at the discretion of the manager.
When do y’all have sales?
We have sales and specials throughout the year, but we have three HUGE sales every year: in late March/Early April (generally called “Purge Fest”, this year it’s called FOOL FEST because it occurs on April 1st), SWEATFEST usually happens late August, and THE PURGENING generally occurs in November. These fests have become massive events, because we have awesome local bands play FREE SHOWS all day long, and we sell THOUSANDS of LPs, CDs, and 45s at bargain prices, many for $1 or less!
How do I get my band’s merchandise in Shangri-La?
We accept consignments from local bands (sorry but we do not accept consignments from out-of-town acts). If your band sells well on consignment, we will just start buying your products outright. Contact us during store hours or through the store email: shangrilarecordsmemphis@gmail.com
When do y’all ship orders?
We send out orders on Tuesdays and Fridays. This means the order needs to be received, and payment cleared by Monday or Thursday for it to be shipped the following day. If you need your order shipped overnight or with any special instructions, please contact us before placing your order so we can make arrangements.
Do y’all participate in Record Store Day (RSD)?
Absolutely! We always carry a large selection of Record Store Day product, and we generally open early on those days. The next Record Store Day will occur on Saturday, April 22, 2017 and Black Friday Record Store Day happens the day after Thanksgiving, in this case Friday, November 24, 2017. Record Store Day product is only available for sale at independent record stores, like us! These are very limited edition records, sometimes first-run or special reissues, and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Per the rules of RSD, we are not allowed to divulge the products or post lists of the RSD inventory we have for sale until the day of RSD. We’re also not allowed to “pre-hold” any RSD items for customers.
Do y’all have new and used music?
Yes! In addition to the tons of used LPs, 45s, CDs, etc., we carry new releases from lots of independent labels in Memphis and across the country. If we don’t have it at the moment and you want it, just ask and we’ll let you know if we can hunt it down for you.
Are y’all hiring?
Not at the moment, but that could change. Feel free to drop by a resume. We are always looking for music lovers and record-hounds with strong retail experience.
