Our Record Store Day philosophy: RSD was founded to drive customers to records stores. While you’re here, maybe you’ll see what an amazing selection of non-RSD products we have, and come back again to shop. That’s what we hope, at least! So we try to make it fair to everyone – which means no one, not even our own employees, can reserve special RSD merchandise in advance. It truly is first-come, first-serve. Also we limit each customer to one of each item per visit. (Which means that once you paid for your items, you are welcome to get back in line for what’s left, but everyone gets a equal shot at everything.) We hope that everyone understands that we’re just trying to be fair to ALL of our valued customers. Thanks!

1. Bike Lanes-Victory!
As you may have heard, the resolution to add bike lanes to Madison Ave has passed! We were behind this all the way . . . so much so, that on Monday (before said resolution had passed) we decided to place the following ad in this week’s Memphis Flyer:
A moot point now? Perhaps. But we called it!
2. Memphis Heat DVD
We will have it available for sale in the store and online on Tuesday, November 1. Until then, if you’d like to reserve a copy, please email orders@shangri.com.

. . . is set for Saturday, October 29. More details coming soon – it’s gonna be HUGE!
Rock for Love 5 approaches!
Quick update on the Rock for Love goings on in the store this year . . . for the third straight year, Shangri-La Records is proud to host the Rock for Love Day Party on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 1 – 5 p.m. This is a FREE SHOW featuring the talents of Bake Sale, the Perfect Vessels, Silver Seeds and Wuvbirds (Shangri-owner Jared’s new pop band!), plus emcee (and Shangri-counter jockey) J.D. Reager. There will also be ice-cream treats, a waterslide for the kids, and all sorts of other fun stuff. Come on out and support a great cause. We will be taking donations for the Church Health Center, and giving 20% of our sales from the day to the cause as well. Get involved!
The Warble FREE In-Store Show July 29!
Memphis art/indie-rockers The Warble will play a free show at Shangri-La Records on Friday, July 29 at 6 p.m. The show will be family and bike friendly, and we’ll be offering the usual 20% discount. Come out and see one of our favorite local bands!

Shangri-La Records will be closed on Monday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day. We will be open regular hours on Sunday, July 3rd (1-5 p.m.) and Tuesday, July 5th (12-7 p.m.).

Rock for Love 5 announcement!
Mark your calendars, folks – the Rock for Love day show returns to Shangri-La for a third consecutive year on August 20!
If you don’t already know, Rock for Love is a festival of live music benefiting the Church Health Center produced in partnership with Makeshift Music. Now in its fifth year, Rock for Love has raised over $90K for the CHC thus far.
This year’s day show (which will kick off around 1 p.m.) should be the best yet, as it will feature performances by Silver Seeds, Wuvbirds, the Perfect Vessels, Hosoi Bros, and Bake Sale. YoLo will be out peddling frosty treats (to benefit the CHC) and we’ll be donating a portion of store proceeds as well.

Shangri-La Update
Greetings, friends of Shangri-La.
First off, we want to let everyone out there in internet-land know that we are surviving the torrential floodwaters/wrath of God just fine . . . in all truth, the water never came anywhere near us. (Or most of the city, for that matter. Don’t believe everything you see on the Today show.)
Secondly, our friends over at The Vinyl District have started a weekly recommendations feature . . . starring us! Check out the first installment right here.
(Also, fyi – The Beatles “butcher cover” LP featured in the TVD piece has now been sold.)
Thirdly, we’d like to invite everyone out to a free in-store performance by local singer/songwriter Cory Taylor Cox and St. Louis pop duo Dubb Nubb on Tuesday, May 24 at 5:15 p.m. Here’s the flyer:
And last, but not least . . . we’re still working on getting the new store working on the website, so please be patient. Once we get everything going smoothly, we’ll have lots of new products to add. Check back soon – and all apologies for the delay.
Midtown Memphis Record Swap
Shangri-La Records is co-sponsoring (along with our buddies @ the Hi-Tone and Goner Records) the first annual “Midtown Memphis Record Swap” on Saturday, May 7 at the Hi-Tone Cafe. The family-friendly, all-day event runs from 11 am – 7 pm and will be free to attend.
Record dealers from across the region will be in attendance – and, of course, we’ll have plenty of cool stuff to sell as well. There will also be DJ’s spinning all day and food/drink specials from the Hi-Tone.
